Kailua Beach, Makapu and Izakaya dinner
I’ve been to Hawaii many times since I first visited Honolulu to attend my young bro’s wedding. Hawaii was a favorite destination of my mom. She has been to many places like Nepal, Finland, Taiwan, Thailand. She always told me she wants to go Hawaii while she was in good shape. She wished she could visit again when she recuperate. She passed away on July 1, 2018 without her dream came true. This trip is a special one for me. I visited the island with my younger bro holding a small jar of her ashes. I sprang her ashes over the sea off Kailua Beach. Kailua Beach once ranked number one beach Americans want to visit. It is way beautiful beach with mild winds always blowing and not so crowded like Waikiki.
We rented a car at the airport when we arrived at Honolulu. We drove around the island. It gave me a lot of occasions to see East side of the island well. We drove from Kailua Beach to Makapu Point, where used to be a military post. We dropped off at a parking lot area and climbed the long slope toward the top. You can see vast green field with blue ocean from the slop. Or you can see ocean on the other side. You could see a whale swimming if it were winter. It is a gentle slope but it keeps going for 30 to 40 minutes to the top. You can see the lighthouse down below.
We had dinner at a Izakaya style Japanese restaurant the first evening. I had salmon sashimi and poke and Ichiban Shibori beer to wash down them. I almost lost the sense where I am now in this setting. I was completely relaxed as if I were in Yokohama drinking with my bro.
